MW4 DMZ / FIELD NOTES

The Hajin map: all 13 major POIs, their threat bands and what to bring

Nobody deploys into a map so much as into a decision about risk, and the MW4 DMZ Hajin map makes that decision unusually legible, because every major place wears its threat band on the label. Here are all thirteen, from the gentlest to the ones we would approach with a will drawn up.

Two halves of one zone

The Hajin Exclusion Zone is divided by politics before it is divided by anything else, with the former North Korean side (NK) in the west and the South Korean side (SK) running across the east and into the city, and the thirteen major points of interest sit on either side of that line, each wearing a band on the five-step scale of Low, Medium, High, Critical and Extreme. Modern Warfare 4 launches on 23 October 2026, DMZ is its extraction mode, and it can be played solo or in a squad, so this is the briefing we would want before the first deployment rather than after the first bad one. The bands come from the official deep dive. The packing advice is ours, and none of it is a game rule.

All thirteen, with the sub-areas the official cards add

Our interactive Hajin map is at /dmz/map/, and it is the quickest way to see where these places sit in relation to each other. The table below is the same information in text. The band for each place is the one the official deep dive gives; the last column lists the sub-areas that have their own official card and the band printed on it, which is where the ranges come from. For NuriGO Mall and The Grid we only saw the one card, which shows a single band inside the range.

The gentle end: Mirae, Songdo, Deadtown and Imjin

Mirae General Hospital and Songdo Wharf are the two major places rated plain Low, and the hospital sits in the north-centre beside a train station, with triage tents laid out on stepped grounds that suggest a lot of low walls to hide behind and a lot of rooms in which to be surprised. Songdo Wharf, over in the east of the city, has train and monorail lines and the La Grande Vie tower, the tallest building on the map, which one can argue is either a fine vantage point or a very large sign saying someone is up there. Deadtown in the south-west (NK) and Imjin Farmland in the south-south-west (SK) both run from Low to Medium. Deadtown is a deserted township with two Re-Education Centers; Imjin is open rice fields, waterways, rail and an industrial mill, which is long sight lines and not much else. If it is your first run, or your first run with a new kit, this is where we would start, with something light and a bag with room in it.

The middle of the scale

Three places sit at Medium, and they could hardly be less alike. Cheonwang Peak Array is the largest telecom array in the zone, on a flat summit in the centre, which means you can see everything and everything can see you. Wolves Stadium, south-central in the city, is a ballpark, an open-air theatre and a concert pavilion, a lot of open space with a lot of seating to be shot from. Hajin River Heights, in the south-east, is residential blocks and narrow, store-lined streets, and it is the place on this list where we would most want a close-range weapon. Medium is where a squad earns its keep and a solo player starts to think.

The wide bands: Cheongun Village and NuriGO Mall

Two places have been given a range rather than a number, and the range is the information. Cheongun Village, in the north (SK), runs from Low to High and contains the Heavenly Luck Casino with its underground parking; NuriGO Mall, in the north-east of the city, runs from Medium to High and is a subterranean shopping district, with the K9 drones of the Gone to the Dogs content turning up below ground. We do not yet know what moves a band from one end of its range to the other (I suppose time, events, or how loudly the previous squad left), and until it is known the sensible plan is to pack for the top of the range and be pleased if you are over-prepared. Close-range power and an ear for what is underneath you are the common thread.

Where the zone bites: the Prison and the Reactor

The 14th Political Prison, in the north-west (NK), is rated High to Critical, and its heart is the Citadel, a vast arrangement of gantries, walkways, repatriation chambers and a furnace, all of it better suited to people who know the layout than to people who are learning it. Spare plates, and a clear idea of where your squad will stand when the corridors narrow, are the baseline. Haneul Nuclear Reactor, in the north-east (SK), is rated High with radiation on top, a radioactive cloud over the site, and the instruction is simple: protective apparel and a gas mask, or do not go. That is the whole game there.

The top of the scale: Chang-san and The Grid

Chang-san Air Base, in the west (NK), is rated Critical to Extreme, and the surface base is the smaller half of it, because beneath it sits an underground bunker complex bigger than everything above. The Grid, in the central city, is also Critical to Extreme, a set of blocks cut by a steel-plated wall topped with razor wire, which tells you the designers wanted movement there to be a negotiation. These are destinations rather than detours. Bring what you can afford to lose, a full squad plan if you have a squad, and some patience, because hurrying is the quickest way to find out why they are rated as they are.

Sixty-odd smaller places and the kinds of place

Beyond the thirteen there are more than sixty minor named areas, among them Tong-il Village, Revolution Dam, Pyonghwa Village, Mujin Pass, Daesong Ridge and Namjin Riverside, and scattered across all of it are recurring location types: gas stations on land and on the water, fire stations, police stations with a locked Armory, clinics, exfil sites, ammo and armour caches, UAV towers, compounds, bounty stations, SAM sites and Lieutenant Hunt towers. The gas stations matter more than they look, since vehicles need repair and refuelling, and the exfil sites matter more than anything, which is a subject for the exfil guide.

The minor places and locations of interest, from the official cards

The official deep dive adds two sets of cards beyond the thirteen. The additional points of interest it pictures are Hajin River, Tong-il Village, Revolution Dam, Pyonghwa Village, Imjin Suburb, Mujin Pass, Daesong Ridge and Namjin Riverside. Mujin Pass also carries a full label on the deploy map in the Dynamic Ops trailer, so it may matter more than its place on this list suggests. Per community reports, unconfirmed, CODMunity also lists Hanrim Village, which is not on the official list we have. The locations of interest are the recurring types: Gas Station, Marine Gas Station, Fire Station, Police Station, Clinic, Exfil, Ammo and Armor Cache, UAV Tower, Compound, Bounty Station, SAM Site and Lieutenant Hunt. Each has its own icon, and DMZ Orders refer to several by name, such as a police station, a compound or a UAV tower in Deadtown.

Reading the lie of the land

One of us plays WARDOGS solo across the Oceania, Europe and US servers, builds FOBs for a living in the game sense, and zooms the big map constantly to read the lie of the land, because there is no GPS yet and the ground tells you what the minimap will not. Hajin gives you something that the WARDOGS map does not, which is a name: in early footage the compass at the top of the screen shows your heading and, beneath it, the area you are standing in. Learn the thirteen and you always know where you are, with the map closed. (Learning sixty more is optional, and nobody will check.)

What we do not know yet, and where Wing Mait fits

Exact exfil locations, loot routes and which places carry which loot tables have not been published, and we will add them when they are official rather than guess. Wing Mait ships today for WARDOGS as a 0.9.5 beta, and a DMZ pack is in development and not released; the piece of it that belongs to this guide is turning the compass location name into a spoken line, so that you hear where you are without looking up. We watch the screen only, and nothing here means it works in DMZ today. Follow along at /dmz/.
