How to kill the Tank solo in MW4 DMZ: TheSpazo's Impact Warhead run, the Construction Zone and the wreck loot

TheSpazo's 11-minute video, this DELETES the *TANK* in SOLO DMZ (INSTA KILL), shows one solo kill of the Commander Battle Tank in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ. He drives from the Rice Mill to The Grid, finds the Tank at the Construction Zone, tries launchers and fire support, and credits the warhead, which on screen is an Impact Warhead, for the kill. Watch it first: his video is the source, embedded just below. This page is the organised companion: the route, a timeline of the fight, the loot we read in the wreck, and a plain list of what we have not tested. Where his video and our other pages disagree we show both.

Watch TheSpazo's video first

This guide follows TheSpazo's run, so please start with his video, embedded above and linked here. The video is 11 minutes 39 seconds long, it has a sponsor read that runs from about 0:24 to 0:51, and the Tank part is the rest. Every method, number and opinion on this page is his unless we say it is ours, and his timestamps are in the table below so you can jump to the moment you care about. We read his captions and watched the footage to place the fight and to read the item cards on screen. We have not played any of this, and nothing here is a promise that it will work for you.

The short answer: an Impact Warhead

In his run the Tank went down after an Impact Warhead, a fire support missile, hit it. TheSpazo says the things he tried first did no damage. On screen the banner IMPACT WARHEAD INCOMING appears at 8:40 and the hit marker at 8:46 reads CRITICAL HIT and VEHICLE DISABLED, the same moment he says "Yo, that just killed it." He says the warhead "practically killed it on its own" and, at the end, that it "might have did it by itself", so he hedges, and so do we. He also says he bought it from the vendor and that this is the way to do it. That is one kill from one creator, so treat it as a lead worth testing and not as a settled method.

Why the Tank is hard to kill solo

TheSpazo calls the Tank a harder solo Commander, probably the hardest one to take down because of what it takes. He says you cannot destroy it with an LMG or an AR, and that an RPG needs about 25 missiles, which is his figure and not a measured one. Our farming guide notes that the developer preview says reactive armour reduces rocket damage, which fits what he says. His line at 7:16 sums up the fight: it absolutely can cook you. There is a reason to try. He says you need things from the Tank to craft the higher-end three-plate gear. Our farming guide lists Nano-Structured Alloy as the Tank's Legendary part, so see the wreck section below for what he actually found.

Where he found the Tank

He starts at the Rice Mill in Imjin Farmland, loots lockers and empties his bag because he expects the fight to take a long time, then takes a vehicle that he calls a grizzly. He says the Tank can spawn in a few weird places, one of them The Grid, and that The Grid is where he checks first. Over the next two minutes his compass reads Imjin Suburb, South Korean Wilderness, Mujin Stadium and then The Grid, rated Critical. At 6:06 he says "Thank god I looked at the tac map", because it showed the Tank right there. At 6:36 the game shows the banner COMMANDER and BATTLE TANK, the compass reads Hajin River Heights, Medium, and the Tank is 35 metres away. From about 8:00 the compass reads Construction Zone. So the fight is at the Construction Zone, east of The Grid and beside Hajin River Heights, which is where we have drawn the ring. Our farming guide reports the Tank around NuriGO Mall, and it also calls the Tank a roaming boss. Both can be true; neither is a fixed spawn, and our map shows both rings.

What the Impact Warhead is

On screen it is a fire support call-in with a MISSILE tag, announced as IMPACT WARHEAD INCOMING. TheSpazo says he bought it from the vendor. He does not name the vendor or the price, so we cannot tell you either. On the Epic Turned Components card in his inventory, which is a 3D printer ingredient, the list of items it is used for reads Impact Warhead and Parachute. That is our reading that the printer can make one; the list is cut off, so we cannot say how many Turned Components it takes. Our ingredient layer lists Turned Components at two places, the Hajin City construction zone and the Imjin Farmland rice mill, going by the printer's own hint. Those are where he fought and where he started, but that is our observation and not something he says. His inventory also shows a Legendary Artillery Beacon and an Epic Bomb Glider, both Fire Support cards. He credits the warhead and nothing else.

The wreck and its loot

He loots the wreck from about 9:18 and is frustrated: "Ain't no way that's all loot" and "I guess part of me thought I was going to get something legendary. Maybe I'm not looting in the right spot." At 9:27 he says "We got to grab that alloy". The wreck has named compartments, and these are the cards we read on screen. Vehicle Engine: a Printed Circuit Board, Pistol/SMG ammo and a Stock Rod, plus an Epic Nylon Laminate card. Vehicle Hatch: Structural Alloy, Rare. Vehicle Turret: Volatile Explosives, Epic. A further vehicle container: Electronic Sensors. We did not see a Nano-Structured Alloy card in the frames we read, although our farming guide lists it as the Tank's Legendary drop from community reports. We have not checked every frame, so we show both. His video ends on a Failed to Exfil screen, so none of it came out with him, and ingredients only count if you extract with them.

If you want to test it

None of this is tested by us. It is our summary of what his run did, so you can plan your own attempt. He had an Impact Warhead before the fight. He says he bought it; the printer may be able to make one, and we do not know the recipe. He held an RPG-8 and picked up Launcher and Ammo Pack items near the Tank, and the HUD shows an Ammo Armor Cache there. He carried plates and used them mid-fight, between about 7:16 and 8:46. He also used a bombing run and had a Bomb Glider and an Artillery Beacon in his inventory. Expect company: someone snipes at him at about 7:47, and he mentions a player spawn near the Rice Mill. Plan your exit first. His raid ended on a Failed to Exfil screen with the wreck loot lost.

On the map

We have added a Tank route to the Hajin map: the Rice Mill, The Grid and the Construction Zone, as points with no drawn path, because we do not know the way he drove. The Commanders layer has a new ring for the Construction Zone beside the community-reported rings. The Construction Zone ring is placed from his compass, his tac-map frame and our existing Construction Zone pin, so it is low confidence and an area, not a surveyed spot. The Rice Mill is Activision's own marker. Open the Routes list, pick the Tank route, and each step card links back to the matching section here.

What we haven't confirmed, and where Wing Mait fits

We have not played this. One kill from one creator does not tell us how often it works. We have not confirmed whether the warhead alone does the damage, which vendor sells it, what it costs, or how to print it. The Construction Zone is where he met the Tank, not a spawn point. The 25-missile figure is his, and the loot cards are only the ones we read. A patch can change any of it. What is on screen here is text and HUD: the banners, the compass, the item cards, the ammo count and the Failed to Exfil screen. Reading on-screen text is what Wing Mait does, so a callout can tell you what a wreck compartment gave you without you looking away. DMZ support is in development, and Wing Mait doesn't read game memory, inject anything or send inputs to the game.

The centre and south of the Hajin map with three numbered points in order: the Rice Mill, The Grid and the Construction Zone, a dashed red ring at the Construction Zone and a second dashed ring at NuriGO Mall for the community report.
Base map: Activision Hajin Tac Map, Official skin. Points and rings: Wing Mait. The NuriGO Mall ring is the community report from our farming guide. No path is drawn because we do not know the way he drove.

Quick answers

The short version, from TheSpazo's video.

How do you kill the Tank solo in MW4 DMZ?

TheSpazo's reported solo kill ended with an Impact Warhead, a fire support missile that he says he bought from the vendor, after the other things he tried did no damage. He hedges that it might have done it by itself. We have not tested it.

Where is the Tank in MW4 DMZ?

It can appear in a few places. In TheSpazo's video it was at the Construction Zone east of The Grid, beside Hajin River Heights. Our farming guide reports it around NuriGO Mall. Check the tac map.

What does the Tank drop?

Our farming guide lists Nano-Structured Alloy from community reports. In TheSpazo's wreck we read Structural Alloy, Volatile Explosives, Nylon Laminate, a Printed Circuit Board, a Stock Rod and Electronic Sensors, and no Nano-Structured Alloy card.

Is the Tank worth killing solo?

He was disappointed by the loot and his raid ended on a Failed to Exfil screen. Our farming guide notes a $50,000 first-kill payout through the Commanders tab of the Boss Board, from community reports.
