MW4 DMZ / FIELD NOTES
MW4 DMZ gold key loot route: IceManIsaac's Operation Iron Citadel run at The Citadel
IceManIsaac says Operation Iron Citadel gives you a gold key every time, and that a solo run to it and back out takes under eight minutes. His video is embedded just below, so please watch it. This page is the organised companion: the four dogs, the K9 battery cores, the green key, the gold key on a desk in the main control room, the South Block Armory it opens, his longer run through the South Wing, and where we have put all of it on our Hajin map. The run is his and we have not tested it.

The short version
IceManIsaac, who runs IceManIsaac Academy on YouTube, calls this the best loot route yet. His claim is that Operation Iron Citadel always spawns a gold key, which he also calls the orange key, and that the route to it is short enough to run solo in under eight minutes. We have not run it. What follows is what he says and what we could read from his on-screen text, with the places pinned on our Hajin map. The run in his order: start the Iron Citadel story mission, take a car north to The Citadel, zip up to the far end of the east wing, knife the four dogs for their K9 battery cores, put the cores in the K9 terminal to get the green key, open the main control room with it, take the gold key from a desk, run out of the front door to the South Block Armory and loot it, then leave by helicopter or car. The gold key is what his video is named for, and the armory is what it opens.

Before you queue
Isaac plays solo and says he put in five hours on this the night before. His setup advice is short. Queue the Operation Iron Citadel story mission, because he says that is what gives the guaranteed spawn. Bring one gun and a medium weapon backpack or a large backpack, because you carry out several guns (3:41, "I only bring one weapon"). On screen the mission reads Approach the Air Base, meaning Chang-san Air Base, but this route skips the base and drives to The Citadel, the 14th Political Prison, instead. The radiation countdown starts at 30:00 around 2:06 of his speedrun clip. He steals a car on the way rather than buy one ("I'm not wasting $5,000 on that", 2:26 to 2:43) and says it is faster if you bring your own vehicle. A word of caution from our side: our Chang-san bunker guide covers a different Iron Citadel run, and that one was patched on 25 October 2026, right after this video went up. We have not checked whether anything here changed. Patches can change any of this.
The speedrun, step by step
Times are video times from Isaac's speedrun clip. The right-hand column is what he says or what we read on screen, not something we have confirmed in our own raids.
| Time | Step | What he says or what we saw |
|---|---|---|
| 2:08 | The mission briefing: approach Chang-san Air Base, run by the North Korean Lieutenant. | The Operation Iron Citadel objective on screen. |
| 2:26-3:14 | Get a car and drive north to the prison. He crosses the highway and the train tracks and cuts through a gap. | "Make your way up to prison." The exact spawn spot is not shown, so we do not place it. |
| 3:54-4:20 | Head to the far end of the wing, zip up, knife out. | A warning that threat is critical here. The HUD reads The Citadel East Wing (4:20). |
| 4:08-4:50 | Knife the four dogs, one after another. | Each drops a K9 Battery Core (item card at 4:48). |
| 4:50-4:54 | Put the four cores in the K9 Core Terminal. | "Terminal repaired" (4:53), then a green key toast: The Citadel Main Control Room. |
| 5:37-5:42 | Open the main control room door with the green key. | "Green key opens up this door ... Guaranteed every time." |
| 5:44 | Take the key from the desk. | On-screen text reads *GOLD KEY* and an orange toast reads South Block Armory. |
| 5:48-6:20 | Run out of the front door, climb through a window, spin round and open the armory. Close loot. | He shows a Blackmarket Weapons Locker key, guns and valuables (see the armory section). |
| 6:35-6:47 | No helicopter at the armory this time, so he takes a jeep. | "Sometimes there's a helicopter here. There isn't." |
| 6:59 | A gold key opened inside five minutes. | "Already opened up a gold key within 5 minutes." |
| 7:40-8:50 | An exfil helicopter banner appears and he leaves from the Pyeonghwa Village area. | "Gold skull. 25k, less than 8 minutes every single time." (auto-caption wording). |
The key chain: dogs, green key, gold key
The video names the keys loosely, so we read the key toasts and prompts on screen to put them in order. Isaac says gold key in the title and orange key in his talking (15:15, "the existence of the orange key is not RNG"). The on-screen text reads GOLD KEY and the toast is orange, so we read them as one key. The name column below is the game's own toast or prompt. One correction on our own site: our keys layer first listed these keys from auto-captions alone and had the green key at the armory. The frames show the order below, so we corrected the map entry.
| Key or item | Where it comes from | What it opens | How we know |
|---|---|---|---|
| K9 Battery Core x4 | Knife each of the four dogs in the East Wing. | They go into the K9 Core Terminal. | Item card at 4:48, "terminal repaired" at 4:53. |
| The Citadel Main Control Room (green key) | A toast right after the terminal takes the cores (4:54). | The main control room door (5:37 to 5:42). | On-screen toast and his words. |
| South Block Armory (gold, or orange, key) | A desk in the main control room, beside a security station (5:41 to 5:44). | The South Block Armory, reached by the front door. | On-screen *GOLD KEY* text and the orange toast. |
| The Citadel South Wing | Guards drop them; he says they turn up "all over the place" (9:10 to 9:30, 13:44). | The South Wing lever, cells and deadbolt in his longer run. | His words and a key prompt. |
| The Citadel Secondary Control Room | Found inside the South Wing (key prompt at 9:50). | The secondary control room on the second floor. | On-screen key prompt. |

The South Block Armory
The gold key opens the South Block Armory, which Isaac reaches by running out of the main control room's front door, mantling a window and spinning round. He loots it fast. On screen in the armory we could read an Oden assault rifle, Ballistic Flight Logs, an Armor Plate, grey-tier guns and a Blackmarket Weapons Locker key as a loot item (6:08). He holds up what he calls Sanctioned assassination lifts, which he values at $10,000 and "just as good as like a gold gun" (6:20, auto-caption wording). He is not claiming it is a jackpot every time. He says his inventory was full of blues, purples, oranges and reds, and he wonders whether a key room opened early in a raid holds worse loot, as in another extraction game. His own testing: he fast-looted it twice and "both times it was kind of underwhelming" (7:04 to 7:38). He sells the route on speed and a guaranteed key, not on a guaranteed haul.
The longer run: South Wing, cells and the secondary control room
The second half of the video is a longer run with a trio, which he says reaches a second hidden locked room. The HUD reads The Citadel South Wing and the countdown restarts at 30:00 (around 8:56). He says there are two ways in. If you have a Citadel South Wing key, pull the lever, listen for the electricity, unlock the cells and then the deadbolt. If you have no key, a keypad takes two sets of codes that you read from notes in the cells. The auto-captions garble the numbers, so we do not publish them. Inside he finds a key for the secondary control room (the prompt on screen at 9:50), unlocks cells with blue and purple loot, and says the area is critical, so there is good loot regardless of the room's tier. He says the secondary control room gives "50k plus every single raid" in materials and cash. That is his claim. On the second floor he opens the camera to open two security fences, then picks one of four rooms because only one can be opened and he takes the one with the most containers (14:00 to 14:50). He lists three options at the end: loot every cell room, use eight dog batteries in a second gate panel, or kill the Colossus and extract (15:55 to 16:15). His summary (15:21 to 15:45) is spawn, car, corner, zip up, four dogs, bottom key room, main control room for the orange key, then the helicopter.
Getting in and out
Getting in is a car. He steals one, cuts across the highway and the train tracks and drives up to the prison, and he says it is faster still if you bring your own vehicle. Getting out is where his two runs differ. In the longer run he says that "90% of the time there is a helicopter that spawns right here" near the secondary control room (14:57), and that if not you can drive, because there are always nearby extracts. In the speedrun the armory had no helicopter, so he drove a jeep, and the exfil banner and HUD show he left by helicopter from the Pyeonghwa Village area (7:40 to 8:40). He does not say the word exfil there, so that is our reading of the banner. For exfil timers, SAM sites and the other mechanics around a run like this, see our IceManIsaac 30+ tips guide.
Colossus and the Warden
The video ends with two bosses at The Citadel. Isaac says the Colossus gives a free $25,000 and a rare weapon that he usually drops, plus rare materials (his intro; his claim). The footage shows the Colossus banner and The Citadel at threat level Extreme (18:00 and 18:50). In the clip a game voice says the Colossus suit makes them immune to explosive attacks (17:49, auto-caption). Our 3D printer farming guide says some sites claim Colossus resists explosives and others dispute it, so treat that as unsettled. The two sources also disagree on money. Our farming guide reports a $50,000 first-kill payout for each Commander through the Boss Board, while Isaac quotes $25,000 for a Colossus kill he repeats. They may be different payouts, since neither source says so, and we have not tested either. The other boss he calls the Warden. On screen the objective reads Kill Kang and the dog tag is Kang's Dog Tag, so we think the Warden is Kang. Isaac groups him with the Colossus as a commander, and says he had never seen the Warden before, a boss with a riot shield inside the atrium. He kills him with thermites ("easy kill only because I brought those thermites", 22:14) and says the dog tag pays $25,000 (his words). We cannot tell from the footage whether the game ranks Kang as a Lieutenant or a Commander.

On the map
The Hajin map now carries this run in two places. The Keys layer has a gold key spawn marker for the main control room desk, the South Block Armory door, and corrected entries for the green, South Wing and secondary control room keys. The Routes list has Iron Citadel gold key run, a four-step route with step cards that open this page at the right section. Both are area only. We matched the open tac map in Isaac's frames to our Official skin for two points, the armory and main control room area and the secondary control room and helicopter area. Each is accurate to a small area, not a door, and we have not placed the dog wing or the terminal. No path is drawn because his footage does not define one.

What we checked, and where Wing Mait fits
We have not played this route. "A gold key every time", "under eight minutes", "50k plus every single raid" and the Colossus payout are Isaac's claims. The key names, the order of the chain and the loot we list are our reading of his on-screen text and a few auto-captions, which we marked where the wording is unclear. We did not use the automated summary on the video page, because it mixes up the keys. Patches can change any of this, and a sister Iron Citadel run on our site was patched soon after this video. Everything here is on-screen text: the key toasts, the item cards, the HUD and the exfil banner. Reading that text is what Wing Mait does, so a callout can tell you which key you just picked up without you looking away. DMZ support is in development, and Wing Mait doesn't read game memory, inject anything or send inputs to the game.

Questions people ask
Quick answers about the Iron Citadel gold key route, from IceManIsaac's video.
Is the gold key guaranteed in Operation Iron Citadel?
That is IceManIsaac's claim. He titles the video 100% Gold Key Spawn and says the orange key is not random. We have not tested it and a patch could change it.
What does the gold key open?
The South Block Armory. The on-screen toast reads South Block Armory when he picks the key up from a desk in the main control room.
How do you get the green key?
By knifing the four dogs in The Citadel East Wing for their K9 Battery Cores and putting them in the K9 Core Terminal. A toast then gives The Citadel Main Control Room key, which he calls the green key.
Can you do the route solo?
He does the speedrun solo and says it takes under eight minutes. The longer South Wing run is shown with a trio.
Where is the gold key on the map?
In the main control room at The Citadel, the 14th Political Prison. Our marker is an area ring because we could place it to a small area but not to a door.
Is this route patched?
We do not know. A different Iron Citadel run on our site was patched on 25 October 2026, soon after this video, and we have not re-checked this one.
